BCBS IL Debuting New Online Preauthorization Tool

On 4/15/2020, BCBS IL will replace its current “iExchange” preauthorization tool with a new Availity based authorization tool. In addition to submitting preauthorization requests, the new tool will allow providers to review preauthorization status, submit requested medical records to support requests, and access printable authorization confirmations.

Please note that this change mainly applies to commercial PPO and Medicare/Medicaid plans, and not HMOs. Furthermore, services that currently require preauthorization through eviCore will not be affected. For additional details, please see the below link to the February edition of Blue Review.
