BCBS IL Expanding Preauthorization Rules

Effective January 1st, 2018, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of IL will expand its requirements for preauthorization in multiple areas including the following:

Ear, Nose, and Throat Gastroenterology
Interventional Pain Management Orthopedic

Wound Care
BCBS IL did not specify what services or procedures within these categories will require additional authoriza- tion. Providers are encouraged to use Availity to check benefits for patients prior to performing services, and use iExchange to perform authorizations online.
