Medicare to Cut Fees for Film X-rays

Starting 1-1-17, Medicare is requiring providers who utilize film x-rays to append the “FX” modifier to their x-ray procedure codes. All such codes will be discounted 20% from the regular Medicare fees. The move is part of Medicare’s broader effort to encourage doctors to modernize their practices, in this case by switching to digital x-rays.

If your practice utilizes film x-rays, please notify HCA so we can adjust our billing accordingly. You may also want to add the FX modifier to your superbills or EHR charges.
