Changes to Cigna Claim Submissions Start May 25th

Take action to Avoid Claim Issues

Please note that we received notification from Cigna that they are updating their E&M codes billed with a modifier 25 effective May 25, 2023. What does this mean? After May 25th, they will require the submission of medical records with claims submitted with an E&M (99212-99215) and 25 modifier when a minor procedure is billed. They will deny the claim without the records. Going forward, if we do not have access to your EMR system we will request medical records for any denied dates on our Missing information list and forward on your behalf once received. Please make sure the medical records support that a significant and separately identifiable service was performed.
